Most men considering buying hair clippers are also considering cutting their own hair. There are plenty of YouTube videos available that will help you in the right direction.
This article will talk about finding the best hair clippers that meet your needs, and we’ll explain to you in a couple of simple steps how to use your hair clipper. Of course we’ll also give you a list of hair clipper that meet our criteria of being a good product.
Finding the Best Hair Clippers
Buying yourself a good hair clipper is not difficult. There are plenty of online shops that sell them in all forms and shapes. Some hair clippers double as beard trimmers. So lets make a list of things to look out for before you buy.
Multi purpose or Single purpose; will you be using your hair clippers only to cut your hair or would you ever consider using it to trim your beard as well?
Accessories; some hair clippers come with only a couple of accessories and add-ons. That’s fine if you’re not demanding. But if you want a bit more it makes sense to keep this in mind. By the way, my personal experience is that you will use maybe only 2 or 3 of the clip-ons that come with the machine. The rest you will never use. Still it’s important to give it some thought.
Cleaning; is it easy to clean? Some new models can actually be rinsed under water, which makes cleaning a lot easier.
Price; as with anything some are expensive others are cheap(er). Generally you can say that you get what you pay for. Since these clippers use blades, the higher priced models will usually be of a better quality.

How to Use Hair Clippers
Using a set of hair clippers isn’t difficult. Here are some things to consider and steps to take for best results:
You start by choosing your guard size. As mentioned before the best hair clippers come with a couple of attachments that make it possible to cut hair to different lengths. Unless you know what you’re doing, it is better to gradually make your hair shorter than using a smaller size guard and be disappointed with the results afterwards. Typically a guard smaller than a size four will show your skin or scalp.
Always make sure that your hair is dry. For one wet hair can make your blades rust, but the other more important thing is that when your hair dries up it will possibly not look the same as it does or did when you cut it when it was wet.
When using your clipper make sure you move it against the grain or direction of your hair. So basically you would always move it upward.
Always make slow and steady strokes. Going too fast could result in injury or so called “holes” in your hair (unless you’re going for bald of course).
If the clipped or cut hair doesn’t fall by itself, make sure you remove it. This way you can clearly see what you’re doing.
Using hair clippers yourself using a mirror is very difficult, because our coordination is usually not used to the mirrored movement. Make sure you practice a bit before actually cutting your hair.
When you’re done, clean your clippers with air and every now and then add a drop of oil to preserve the blade.
